Our Equipment...
This is a list of hardware/software that we use to power weather.lissproductions.com.
"The" Weather
Station
The station is a La Crosse Technology WS-2310TWC V2.
The WS-2310TWC V2 consists of a thermometer/hydrometer to measure
temperature and relative humidity; an anemometer to measure wind
speed and direction; and a self-tipping rain gauge to measure
precipitation. We are currently 'wireless' but have seen some
'glitches'. We are planning to wire the station for increased
reliability and data gathering purposes. While data is gathered from
the base station every 3 seconds, this site's data is updated once
every 5 minutes via the Serial interface to Virtual Weather Station
Pro which dumps the data used in this site to csv format. The weather station was installed according to the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Weather Station Siting, Performance, and Data Quality Guide Version 1.0 March 8, 2005. The anemometer is mounted to our play structure which is ~33 feet in the air to ensure the best wind. The rain gauge is mounted on the back side of the play structure as are the temperature and humidity sensors to shade them from the sun.
PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor
Almost all the dynamic content on the site is created using PHP. When you see our maps, radar page, advisories, air quality and pollen, etc. These are all pages put together with PHP. PHP also allows us to very quickly and easily make major changes to the site.
Virtual Weather Station Pro
Our weather station
interfaces with our computer through software written by
Ambient Weather. It is a powerful tool for
beginner to advanced weather enthusiasts. I highly recommend
this software for weather enthusiasts wanting to start their
own website.
WUHU
The Weather Underground / HeavyWeather Uploader (WUHU) is
used to upload their weather data to weather servers
(Weather Underground and CWOP) via the Internet. WUHU download site
LissProduction's WUHUService
A simple little program that runs WUHU as a service that I wrote.
Dell Optiplex PIII 933Mhz
Our
weather information is collected by a small dell desktop, then transfered to our webserver.
